MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – KANSAS CITY - March 28

The only guarantee for Charles Frederick when he made the leap from arenafootball2 to the Brigade in October 2005 was that he would know the playbook. After all, his head coach with the Spokane Shock, Chris Siegfried, had recently been named the offensive coordinator in Kansas City. Well, that guarantee has proved true for Frederick, and with it has come success to the tune of being named the Arena Football League’s Rookie of the Month for March. Frederick (5-9, 195 lbs, Washington) was listed as the Brigade’s fourth receiver to start the season, but three games later he is permanently in a starting role and is also a primary kick returner. He is among the AFL’s best in nearly every offensive category and he currently holds the single-game league high for rushing yards (59), set in the season opener against the defending champion Chicago Rush. He also ranks:

  • First among rookies in receiving yards (305 yards)
  • Third among rookies in receptions (25 catches)
  • Fifth in rushing and first among rookies (74 yards)
  • Tied sixth in first downs and first among rookies (9)
  • Tied for ninth in non-kicker scoring (60 points)
  • 10th in all-purpose yards and first among rookies (544 yards)
  • 15th in yards from scrimmage and first among rookies (379 yards)
  • 16th in kickoff returns and first among rookies (165 yards)
  • Frederick has set Brigade single-game records for rushing yards (59), twice for rushing touchdowns (three) and long rush (27 yards). He is first on the team in receiving (25 receptions for 305 yards with four touchdowns), rushing (20 carries for 74 yards with six touchdowns) and scoring (10 total touchdowns for 60 points). Frederick also has two 100-yard receiving games.
